Google Voice SMS Easter EGG

For you Google Voice users out there I’ve found a small, but funny, easter egg. Google Voice is a service that lets you do some pretty cool things with your phone like forwarding calls, using one number for all your phones and sending free text messages. For more on Google Voice a simple Google search will tell you a lot more than I can.

When sending and SMS message with Google Voice it gives you a small counter that counts down from 160 (the total allowable characters in a single text message. You can send messages that are longer as it will concatenate multiple messages for you.

However if you send a particularly long message, the counter will count down from 160 and then transition to another counter which shows you how many messages it will need to send. IF you keep typing it will eventually reach a message so long that the counter stop counting and just displays the word “Really?” It’s a funny little message from Google letting you know that it might be time to consider switching to an email.

Oh those Google guys – they are ever so clever.
