Really McK? Really tech nerds?
McK leaked a recent report about the hype surrounding cloud computing. No real surprises here other than that they basically suggest “the cloud” is over-hyped and that for large organizations it likely doesn’t make much sense relative to keeping operations in house.
This isn’t a surprise based on who McK, Bain, & BCG traditionally serve. Seriously, companies like GE and Northrop Grumman aren’t going to suddenly move all of their datacenters to the cloud simply because people are excited about the hype of the cloud. These major companies (who are the traditional strategy consulting cleints) need the report to allay their fears that they are missing the boat on this “cloud computing thing.”
But then a bunch of tech nerds get into the comments and start spewing what they think is brilliance. Whenever you have something to say that seems just so much more genius than anything anyone else has said, you just might want to check with a friend that you aren’t an idiot. Some of the tech guys commenting on this story didn’t check…
